What type of editing do you need?

Concierge services

I offer a range of editorial services, from the big picture to the smallest of details. Often, projects need more than one type of editing. That's why before I begin work, we decide together what type of editing is right for you and your project.
Not sure what you need? Let's talk.

Content/Developmental Editing

Before an editor checks your document for correct grammar and spelling, you want to make sure the ideas make sense and the writing is readable. This level of editing does just that. It analyzes the manuscript as a whole, such as is it organized logically? are the ideas easy to follow? is the content compelling and convincing? does the book feel complete? And it gives you detailed suggestions about how to improve it. (Note: this is not a peer review to assess the accuracy or completeness of your ideas.)
You will receive: your manuscript marked up with detailed edits and comments showing you exactly what needs to be fixed and exactly how to fix it.
This service is for you if: you want to know exactly where your manuscript isn't working and how to improve it.

Manuscript Evaluation

Do you have a first draft or partial draft and don't know what to do next or if the project is worth continuing? I will review your manuscript and identify up to three main areas that need revising so you will be more effective when writing your next draft.
You will receive: a report (two to four pages) that points out the problem areas and gives you suggestions for fixing them.
This service is for you if: you need broad feedback to determine where to focus your efforts and are confident in making the revisions yourself.

Coaching

I will coach you through the writing process and help you develop confidence in your writing abilities. We will start at wherever point you are at in your project. We can brainstorm to develop your concepts into an outline or table of contents, review each chapter as you compete them, and discuss how to strengthen any weak points.
You will receive: We will meet regularly (either in person in Atlanta or via phone/Skype) to review your latest material and to discuss the challenges you are facing and how to overcome them. You will come away from each meeting confident about taking the next step.
This service is for you if: you need help developing the structure and focus of your manuscript and detailed feedback as you write.

Copyediting

Copyediting makes sure the grammar, punctuation, and spelling are correct and consistent. It is the last chance to ensure that these mechanics are correct before the manuscript is typeset and proofread.
You will receive: your manuscript with copyedits made directly in the text and comments inserted to point out ideas that are unclear. Suggested corrections will be given, where possible.
This service is for you if: your manuscript has already undergone a content/developmental edit or its content is well organized, logical, and clear.

Self-publishing Consulting

Want to self-publish your book but don't know where to start? Need help figuring out which self-publishing platform is right for you? Want a professionally designed book but don't know how to get that accomplished? In this age of DIY, sometimes we still need a real human voice, rather than a YouTube video or a how-to book—a conversation that can answer your questions and help you figure out your next steps.
You will receive: a one-on-one conversation via phone or Skype. I will give you an overview of the self-publishing process and answer all your questions. By the end of the consultation, you will feel confident about what you need to do and how to do it. I can also provide ongoing support via email or phone/Skype as you work through the process.
This service is for you if: you need guidance about any aspect of the self-publishing process.

Corporate Editorial Consulting

For corporations, nonprofits, and other businesses, I offer a large range of editorial services: from editing individual documents to developing a writing and style guide to ensure your documents are consistent across the organization. Projects may include white papers, firm monographs, websites, brochures, reports, technical documents, process and procedure manuals, and employee handbooks. Professional development sessions to staff about writing best practices are also available (in person or online).
You will receive: the deliverable will be determined by your needs.
This service is for you if: your organization needs an editor to ensure that your written materials are professionally created and support your brand.
